Case study · zkSync Era
Zk Chickens
A casual online shooter on zkSync Era, shipped to Google Play. Players mint items on the web and use them in-game immediately — the economy is built so skilled players can earn without the game becoming work.

The problem
Item ownership that survives the game session
Casual shooters live or die on session length, so nothing in the mint flow could block play. Items had to be purchasable on the web and usable in the next match without a rebuild, a restart, or a wallet prompt mid-fight.
What we built
Signature-gated mints, batched on zkSync Era
Items are ERC-1155 tokens minted from the web app; the game client reads ownership at match start and verifies actions with signatures instead of writing per shot. zkSync Era keeps fees low enough that a cosmetic purchase makes sense at casual-game price points.
The economy
Earning from skill, not from grinding
Rewards come out of match fees rather than fresh emissions, so the pool is bounded by real activity. Skilled players earn; the token doesn't need new buyers to keep paying out. This is the lesson we took from watching earlier play-to-earn economies unwind.
